My infatuation with ballet came from time spent with Francesca Hayward and César Corrales around rehearsals and performances, opening my eyes to the world in which the work is built. Watching them move together, now as newlyweds as well as partners on stage, subtly shifted how Cranko’s Onegin landed for me. The ballet arrived at a moment when its ideas around love’s timing felt touchingly close.
Onegin follows a man who turns away when love is first offered, mistaking distance for strength. When he finally understands what he refused, time has already made its decision. Cranko’s choreography allows that realisation to sit, unresolved.
This film moves inside that space. It documents private moments with Francesca, fragments of rehearsal, and the live ballet itself, seen from positions the audience would never normally inhabit.
In order of appearance Francesca is wearing: Chanel jacket and belt, Extreme Cashmere top, Levi’s jeans, Le Monde Beryl shoes, Issey Miyake bag Skirt and training top – talents own, Ferragamo bodysuit and vest, Studio Deve earrings.
